History
The park was purchased on behalf of the people of Glasgow by the City Improvement Trustees in 1866 and from 1867-8 the park provided work for many unemployed labourers in its laying out. In 1870 the park was officially openend asnd takes its name fromPrincesss Alexandra, the wife of the future KingEdward VII.
Facilities
The park has a nine-hole golf course, bowling greens, childrensplaygrounds, picnic area and an orienteering course. It is also home to the forty-foot cast-iron Walter MacFarlane Saracen Fountain which was originally gifted to the City after the 1901 International Exhibition that took place in Kelvingrove Park. It remained in Kelvingrove Park until 1914 when it was moved to its current position in Alexandra Park.
