The park was openend in 1896 and extended in 1901 and 1903 to its current size. The Empire Exhibition was held here in 1938 and took 14 months to complete before opening; however the only building left from the time is the Palace of Art which now serves as a Sports Excellence Centre. In 1996 the House for an Art Lover was completedfrom original drawings by charles Rennie MackIntosh and Margaret Macdonald from a competition entry in 1901.
