Clyde FC were formed in 1877 and until 1986 played at Shawfield Stadium in Rutherglen, Glasgow. They are now based at Broadwood Stadium, Cumbernauld.

From 1986 until 1994, they were homeless and played at Firhill Stadium, home of their biggest rivals Partick Thistle, they also played at Douglas Park, Hamilton.

During their time at Firhill they were given the name the 'Gypsies' by Thistle fans as they were homeless and wandered from place to place, to this day they are still referred to as this.

Clyde's traditional colours are white with red and black. The club badge depicts a sailing ship, in recognition of the maritime heritage of the river from which they take their name.

Famous players to come from this club include Craig Brown (who also managed them and Scotland), and Steve Archibald.

They have won the Scottish cup on 3 occasions, in 1939, 1955, 1958. Although they are one of the few 'bigger' division one teams that has never played in the Premier Division or the now SPL.
