History

The initial purchase of the land for the park was in 1920, with subsequent purchases being made to increase the size. Between 1924 and 1926 the depth of Hogganfield LochwasLoch was increased and an island built in it. By 1930 a tea room and boat house had been built near to the entrance and boats were hired out, a pitch and putt had been created by this time. Initially the island on the loch had public access but by the 1980's it was recognised that the island was an important wildlife refuge and it was closed. In 1988 the loch and surrounding park land were declared a Local Nature Reserve and the area is now managed to promote the habitat for wildlife.

Facilities

The park provides a good place to see migrating wild fowl and water birds over wintering as well as skylarks and water voles. There are also play areas and picnic sites as well as walks and an orienteering course. The Lethamhill Golf course is also close by the park.
