| The name Glasgow derives from the Gaelic "Glaschu" meaning "dear green place" and the city is blessed with a number of parks and green spaces. Glasgow Green is the oldest park dating from 1450 when the land was granted to Bishop William Turnbull and the people of Glasgow by King James II. Many of the remaining parks are a legacy of the Victorian Era when the City was expanding rapidly and the planners of the day allowed for parks for those in the high density tenements, typical to the city, to enjoy open space. |
