The name Glasgow derives from the Gaelic "Glaschu" meaning "dear green place" and the city is blessed with a number of parks and green spaces. Glasgow Green is the oldest park dating from 1450 when the land was granted to Bishop William Turnbull and the people of Glasgow by King James II.
