| History Victoria Park was originally acquired by Partick Borough before being annexed to Glasgow and Originally acquired by the Burgh of Partick, Victoria Park was named for Queen Victoria’s golden jubilee in 1886 and opened on the 2nd July 1887. I currently coversa total of 50 acres but was larger before the development of the Clydeside Expressway. The park incorporates ponds that were once used for boating but now act as a refuge for water birds. There are also bowling greens with a small putting course near to it, and Fossil Grove. It also has 2 curling rinks beside the arboretum. There is a four sided clock, donated by William Gordon Oswald in 1888, which is still working. The Jubilee Gates located on Victoria Park Drive North were originally located on Balshagary Avenue, but were moved during the construction of the nearby Clydeside Expressway and Clyde Tunnel. |
